What is Mondly?

Mondly is a language-learning app that teaches 41 languages from short, structured lessons. The listing describes 200+ lessons organised by topic (family, weather, travel, sports, food), 38 vocabulary builders, over 3,500 daily lessons, weekly quizzes and monthly challenges created since 2015, grammar features and conjugation tables, and 50+ conversations between fluent speakers for pronunciation.

For English learners there are two routes. You can pick English inside the main Mondly app, or use the separate Learn American English – Mondly app. The main listing also mentions 30+ English progress tests with Pearson content and a British English track with 50+ intermediate and advanced categories and 260+ video lessons.

Is Mondly free?

Partly. You can download it for free, and the listing even says you can learn the 41 languages “for free”. It also says: “You will need a subscription in order to get access to all of this app’s courses and features.” In practice, treat the free part as a way to try the first lessons, and the subscription as the real product.

The subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends, and access ends at the end of the paid period when you cancel. Any unused part of a free trial is lost when you buy.

Mondly price

India, monthly (one-week free trial)
₹799 (one listed plan ₹639)
India, yearly (one-week free trial)

US, “Premium”
$14.99 (plan length not shown in the list)
US, “Premium all Languages Promo”
$19.99 (plan length not shown)

The US list also contains small purchases such as Hearts, Extra Heart and Bonus XP, which look like game-style extras, and it does not say whether $14.99 is monthly or yearly, so we do not guess. Mondly’s own pricing page did not load for us, so check the amount and the billing period on the payment screen before you subscribe. The India yearly plan works out to about ₹325 a month, much lower than the monthly price.

What Mondly does well

  • Huge range. 41 languages and 1,320 language pairs: useful if you learn more than one language.
  • Short daily lessons. Easy to build a habit, which matters more than lesson length.
  • Hands-free mode. Learn while walking or commuting.
  • Pearson-based tests for English, according to the listing.
  • Well rated. 4.7 stars from tens of thousands of App Store ratings.

Where Mondly falls short for English speaking

  • It is a course app, not a speaking-practice app. The listing mentions a chatbot and voice recognition, but not open voice conversations with scores for pronunciation, fluency and grammar. We have not tested how deep these features go.
  • Unclear pricing. The US list does not show plan lengths, and the listing says both “free” and “subscription needed”.
  • Breadth over depth. With 41 languages, English-speaking practice is one part of a very large product.
  • Phone first. The listing is for iPhone and iPad; check the web and Android options if you need them.
