How to learn these sentences (and actually use them)

Reading 1,000 sentences won’t make you speak. Saying them will. This routine takes 10 minutes a day:

  1. Pick one situation you’ll meet this week, like a doctor’s visit or a meeting. Relevance makes sentences stick.
  2. Choose 5 sentences and read each one out loud three times. Speak at a normal speed, joining the words naturally.
  3. Change one word. “Can I pay by card?” becomes “Can I pay by phone?”. Now it’s your sentence, not a memorised line.
  4. Use them the same day, in a real conversation, a message or a practice call.
  5. Review on day 3 and day 7. Say yesterday’s five before learning five new ones.

Frequently asked questions

What are the most common English sentences used in daily life?

The most common are polite phrases and requests such as “Could you repeat that, please?”, “Thank you so much”, “How much is this?”, “What time works for you?” and “Have a nice day!”. This page lists 1,000 such sentences, grouped into 40 everyday situations.

How can I learn English sentences for daily use quickly?

Pick five sentences a day from a situation you will actually meet, say each one out loud three times, change one word to make it your own, and use them in a real conversation the same day. Review them after three days and again after a week.

What are some daily English questions with answers?

Common ones are “How are you?” (“Fine, thanks. And you?”), “What do you do?” (“I work in sales.”), “Are you free tomorrow?” (“Yes, after six.”) and “Can I pay by card?” (“Yes, of course.”). This page has 20 everyday questions, each with a short and a fuller natural answer.

Are these sentences British or American English?

They are everyday international English that works in both. Spelling is British (for example “colour”), and the few words that differ, such as “bill” and “lift”, are the British forms.

Is it better to learn sentences or single words?

Sentences. A whole sentence teaches you the words, the grammar and the natural word order at the same time, so you can use it immediately in conversation instead of building it word by word.

How many English sentences do I need to speak fluently?

There is no fixed number, but a few hundred well-practised everyday sentences cover most daily situations. Fluency comes from using them often in real conversations, not from memorising a very long list.
