What is Cambly?
Cambly connects you with English tutors by video. Its site promises “anytime, anywhere, 24/7” access, and describes the tutors as native English speakers. The higher plans add lesson recordings, transcripts and feedback after every lesson, and the Pro plan gives access to Cambly’s Pro tutors and structured lessons. There is a separate product for children, Cambly Kids.
How much does Cambly cost?
Cambly’s own pages show prices in two ways. The plans page lists a monthly price per plan: $12 for Small Groups, $30 for Private+ and $45 for Pro, each shown as reduced from a higher price ($20, $48 and $73). The subscribe page, which appears to show the Pro plan, lists a price per 30-minute lesson: $17.25 on a monthly plan, $14.33 when billed every three months and $9.88 when billed yearly, with 1, 2, 3 or 5 lessons a week.
We could not reconcile the two views, and Cambly runs promotions, so treat any figure here as a snapshot and confirm the total at checkout. The page says subscriptions renew automatically and can be cancelled at any time.
Is there a free trial?
We found no free trial on Cambly’s own pages. Cambly’s support article says “trial lessons are just $1”: a 30-minute lesson with a native-speaking tutor. You create an account, answer questions about your level, goals and interests, choose a tutor and pay. Referral and promo offers circulate on third-party sites; check them on cambly.com before relying on them.
What Cambly does well
- A real person who reacts to you, which no app fully replaces.
- Always available: no scheduling needed, so it fits irregular days.
- Recordings and transcripts on Private+, so you can review what you said.
- A cheap way to test with a $1 first lesson.
Where Cambly falls short
- Tutor quality varies. An independent review dated 14 October 2026 notes that not all tutors hold teaching certificates and that the search does not separate those who do. We have not verified this ourselves.
- You pay for human time, so a month of daily practice costs far more than an AI tutor.
- Little structure unless you add it. The same review says weekly minutes expire and subscriptions cannot be paused.
- Pricing is hard to compare because the site mixes per-month and per-lesson figures.
Cambly vs YoFluent
We make YoFluent, so read this with that in mind. They solve different problems: Cambly gives you a person, YoFluent gives you unlimited low-pressure practice.
| Cambly | YoFluent | |
|---|---|---|
| Who you talk to | Native-speaking human tutors | AI tutors with different accents |
| Practice | Free conversation or Cambly’s lessons | Voice calls in 16 real situations (interviews, meetings, small talk…) |
| Feedback | Tutor feedback; recordings on Private+ | Scores for pronunciation, fluency, grammar and vocabulary after each call, CEFR level |
| Availability | 24/7, 30-minute lessons | Any time, any length |
| Trial | $1 lesson | 3-day free trial on the yearly plan |
| Paid | From $12/month (small groups) to $45/month (Pro) | $14.99/month or $59.99/year |
Many learners use both: an AI tutor for daily repetition, and a human tutor now and then for real-world feedback.
