What “free” really gives you

Almost every list calls these apps “free”. In practice, “free” means one of three things, and only the first lets you practise every day without paying.

  1. Free with daily limits: ChatGPT voice (daily limits), Gemini Live, Talkpal (10 minutes a day), Gliglish (10 minutes a day), Langua (about 3 minutes of calls a day). Stimuler and MySivi say in their App Store listings that the app is free to use, with paid plans that unlock more.
  2. A taste, then pay: Praktika (a few avatars, limited practice), ELSA Speak (limited lessons), Supernova (free to start; the full course is paid).
  3. A trial only: Speak (free trial, then a membership), ELSA Speak (7-day trial of Premium), YoFluent (3-day trial on the yearly plan). Loora is subscription-only on the App Store.

Cheapest AI speaking apps in India, per month

Indian App Store prices are much lower than US prices for most apps, but they vary a lot. Here is the lowest listed yearly price divided by 12, which is what an app really costs per month if you commit for a year (Indian App Store, 23 October 2026):

AppLowest yearly price listedPer monthMonthly plan listed
Stimuler₹499about ₹42₹199–₹399
ELSA Speak₹1,749about ₹146₹499
Praktika₹1,999about ₹1673 months from ₹1,499
Talkpal₹3,899about ₹325₹649
MySivi₹4,999about ₹417₹999

Loora₹4,999about ₹417₹1,199–₹1,999
Langua₹14,900about ₹1,242₹1,999–₹2,999
ChatGPT voice——Go ₹399 (Plus ₹1,999)

Supernova lists Premium from ₹99 to ₹1,999 without naming the period on the App Store; its website lists the yearly adults course at ₹8,999 + GST. See our Supernova review for the full fee structure.

Two warnings. First, the lowest price is often an introductory offer: check what the plan renews at. Second, a cheap yearly plan is only cheap if you use it. Start with the free version or a trial, practise for a week, and pay only once you have a habit. For Supernova’s full fee structure, read is Supernova AI free or paid?

Which AI speaking app is right for you?

  • Complete beginner (A1–A2): Praktika or Speak. They guide you, so you are never stuck for what to say.
  • Intermediate, stuck at B1–B2: daily open conversation (ChatGPT voice, Gemini Live, Loora or YoFluent). This is the level where speaking volume helps most. Read how to speak English fluently for the method.
  • IELTS or another speaking test: Stimuler for test-style answers and band estimates, plus our IELTS speaking topics.
  • Job interviews and work: Loora or YoFluent, plus our HR interview questions and answers.
  • Pronunciation and accent: ELSA Speak.
  • Explanations in Hindi or another Indian language: Supernova or MySivi.
  • No budget: ChatGPT voice or Gemini Live, plus Talkpal or Gliglish for 10 minutes a day.

How to use an AI speaking app so it actually works

  1. Speak every day, 10 to 15 minutes. Daily short practice beats one long session a week, because speaking is a habit.
  2. Repeat the same situation twice. Do the same role-play two days in a row. The second time is always better, and that is where you feel progress.
  3. Fix one mistake at a time. After each session, write down one mistake and use the correct form three times the next day.
  4. Answer in full sentences. One-word answers are easy for the AI to accept and useless for you.
  5. Check yourself once a month. Record a 2-minute answer to the same question and compare. Our English speaking score tool gives you a baseline.

For a full daily routine that mixes AI practice with real people, see our English speaking practice plan, and for what an AI tutor can and cannot do, read AI English tutor: what it can do.

What AI speaking apps cannot do (yet)

  • They are more patient than people. An AI waits, understands unclear sentences and never looks bored. That is good for confidence, but real conversations are faster. Add a real person now and then: a friend, a colleague or a language exchange partner.
  • Scores are estimates. Pronunciation scores and IELTS band estimates come from each app’s own model. Use them to track your progress, not as an official result.
  • They can miss mistakes. Speech recognition sometimes “hears” what you meant, not what you said. If an app never corrects you, ask it to be stricter.
  • Your voice is data. These apps record your voice to analyse it. Read the privacy section of the App Store listing before you sign up, especially for children.

How we compared

On 23 October 2026 we read each app’s US and Indian App Store listing, including the full list of in-app purchase prices and the description, and took ratings from Apple’s public lookup API. Free tiers come from our own dated reviews of each app (linked above) and from the apps’ App Store descriptions; where a listing does not state a limit, we say so. We did not take paid plans of every app, so we describe each one from its listing and official pages, not from months of use. We make YoFluent, which is on this list at number 6. No other app paid us, and we do not use affiliate links. Prices change often: if you find one out of date, email us and we will correct it.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best AI app for English speaking?

It depends on your goal. Speak is the best structured course, Praktika is best for beginners, Stimuler is best for IELTS speaking and the cheapest in India, Loora is best for work English, and ELSA Speak is best for pronunciation. ChatGPT voice and Gemini Live are the best free options.

Is there a free AI app to practise English speaking?

Yes, with limits. ChatGPT voice and Gemini Live are free general assistants you can talk to. Talkpal and Gliglish give 10 minutes of practice a day for free, and Langua about 3 minutes of calls a day. Most specialised apps are paid for full use or offer only a trial.

Which AI English speaking app is best in India?

For IELTS and the lowest price, Stimuler: yearly plans from ₹499 on the Indian App Store. For explanations in Hindi or other Indian languages, Supernova or MySivi. For pronunciation, ELSA Speak at ₹499 a month. For free practice, ChatGPT voice or Gemini Live.

How much does an AI English speaking app cost in India?

On the Indian App Store on 23 October 2026, yearly plans ranged from about ₹499 (Stimuler) to ₹1,749–₹3,599 (ELSA Speak), ₹3,899 (Talkpal), ₹4,999 (MySivi, Speak and Loora at their lowest) and ₹14,900 or more (Langua). Prices vary by offer, so check the checkout screen.

Can I practise English speaking with ChatGPT?

Yes. ChatGPT voice mode is a good free conversation partner if you tell it how to act, for example to keep answers short, ask you questions and correct your biggest mistake after each answer. It does not give lessons, levels or speaking scores.

Which AI app gives an IELTS speaking band score?

Stimuler’s App Store listing says it gives an IELTS speaking band estimate after a 60-second answer and offers AI mock interviews. Any app’s band is an estimate from its own model, not an official IELTS result.

Can an AI app make you fluent in English?

An AI app gives you what most learners lack: daily speaking practice without fear. With 10 to 15 minutes a day and attention to one mistake at a time, most learners speak more fluently within weeks. For full fluency, add conversations with real people too.

Practise with a scored voice call
